The Federal Reserve Bank of New York works to promote sound and well-functioning financial systems and markets through its provision of industry and payment services, advancement of infrastructure reform in key markets and training and educational support to international institutions.
The Outreach and Education function engages, empowers and educates the Second District communities that the Bank serves, especially civic leaders, students, educators, small business owners, policymakers and the general public. It furthers the Bank's commitment to the region by listening to the communities we serve and leveraging our unique attributes to positively impact school and university programs, as well as analysis and research.
The New York Federal Reserve Bank, in cooperation with New York University, organizes an education seminar series. The seminar organizers are Rajashri Chakrabarti and Wilbert van der Klaauw from the NY Fed and Amy Schwartz and Leanna Stiefel from NYU. These seminars are aimed at bringing together academic researchers, practitioners and policymakers to discuss current ideas, concerns and findings relating to educational policies and practices. The genesis of the series is based on Alan Greenspan's emphasis (that has been continued by Ben Bernanke) on the important role of K-12 education in achieving and sustaining productivity growth and human capital accumulation. The workshop is part of the Bank’s K-12 education initiative and regional outreach efforts.
