Jamie B. Stewart, Jr.

Jamie B. Stewart, Jr. Jamie B. Stewart, Jr. was first vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from January 1999 to January 2004. The first vice president is the bank's second-in-command and its chief operating officer.

Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Stewart was vice chairman of the Mellon Bank Corporation and Mellon Bank, N.A., Pittsburgh. He was responsible for Mellon Bank's overall wholesale banking, international operations and cash management activities. He began his career at Mellon Bank in 1988 as executive vice president in the Corporate Finance Group.

Prior to joining Mellon, Mr. Stewart worked as a senior vice president of the Bank of America and before that as executive vice president of Crocker National Bank, San Francisco. He worked at the Bank of Boston from 1972 - 1985, rising to executive director of the Corporate Finance Division. During his time at the Bank of Boston, he ran a multinational banking function and later was president of their International Bank in New York.

Prior to his career with Bank of Boston, Mr. Stewart was with the United States Navy as a surface line officer from 1966-1970.
Mr. Stewart received a juris doctor degree from Suffolk Law School in Boston in 1980, an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School in 1972 and a B.A. degree in French from Dartmouth College in 1966.

He served on the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington from February 1998 to January, 1999. He has also served as treasurer and board member of the Pittsburgh Opera Company from March 1993 to January, 1999. He is a founding board member for Gestalt International Study Center in Wellfleet, Massachusetts.
